3SUN for Ferraroni S.p.A.

Need. Reducing the impact of energy costs for a sustainable agri-food supply chain.

Ferraroni S.p.A., a pillar of the agri‑food and livestock sector with more than a century of history, was founded in 1914 in Stagno Lombardo through the vision of its founder, Enrico Ferraroni. Today, the Ferraroni family continues to lead the company, combining technological innovation with tradition. The company specializes in producing premium feed for dairy cattle, with a strong focus on quality and traceability.

In the agri-food and livestock sector, operational continuity and production efficiency demand a steady energy supply throughout the day. For a company in this industry, where supply stability is closely tied to market competitiveness, sharp volatility in energy prices and the steady increase in electricity procurement costs became the driving force behind a major strategic shift.

The company’s needs were twofold: on one hand, reducing dependence on the external power grid to protect operating margins; on the other, mitigating the financial impact of one of the largest line items in its budget. This search led Ferraroni to a partner able to deliver not only lower energy bills, but also clean, safe, and reliable power generation, supporting its vision of an increasingly sustainable, efficient supply chain that respects local resources.

Solution. A hi-tech solar park with single-axis tracker and 3SUN modules.

To address these specific needs, the design and installation team at ECO The Photovoltaic Group — part of the Open SB Group — developed and built an innovative ground-mounted solar park with a total capacity of 991.38 kWp (approximately 1 MWp). The system was seamlessly integrated on land owned by the agri-food company, making efficient use of the available space without disrupting ongoing production activities.

To maximize energy yield and enhance overall energy production, ECO Group’s engineers incorporated single-axis tracker technology — an advanced solar tracking system that automatically adjusts the panels to follow the sun’s path from sunrise to sunset.

At the technological heart of the system are 3SUN B60 series modules, selected by the installer for their outstanding efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance stability. Manufactured entirely in Italy at the Catania Gigafactory, these modules represent the pinnacle of European innovation. The design team’s technical expertise also ensured that the project was structured to provide the client with seamless access to the tax benefits and incentives available under the Transition 5.0 Plan, maximizing the value of investments aimed at self-consumption and decarbonization.

Result. Maximum energy autonomy and market competitiveness.

Since coming online, the plant has enabled Ferraroni S.p.A. to achieve a remarkable milestone in energy independence, achieving a self-consumption rate of 80% of the energy generated. This translates directly into a sharp, tangible reduction in electricity costs and greater protection against energy market volatility.

Beyond delivering an immediate and measurable financial return, the investment has reinforced and showcased the company’s commitment to sustainability. By choosing to self-generate clean energy through 3SUN’s cutting-edge Italian-made technology and the installer’s expertise in project execution, Ferraroni has strengthened its brand positioning across the entire agri-food supply chain — where sustainable production processes have become a key competitive differentiator, widely recognized by both business partners and end consumers.

We are extremely pleased with the results achieved: this plant has allowed us to take a decisive step toward energy independence for our company. ECO Group made all the difference, supporting us with skill and professionalism at every stage. They have proven to be a reliable partner, and together we have built a relationship based on trust that goes far beyond a traditional supplier-client relationship”.
