From energy efficiency upgrades to competitiveness: LICAT Srl’s sustainable project with 3SUN

LICAT Srl, a Turin-based company specialized in the manufacturing of gears, equipment, and mechanical machining, has made a determined choice to renew and modernize its production facilities in order to strengthen efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness.
With over forty years of experience in the sector, LICAT Srl has embarked on a comprehensive renewal path involving spaces, processes, and technology, with the ambition of creating a working environment capable of meeting the challenges of modern industry. This vision has taken shape in a concrete project aimed at improving energy performance and upgrading production systems.
The decision to invest in a photovoltaic system is driven by a long-term perspective: leveraging innovation as a responsible driver capable of generating both environmental and operational benefits. This initiative represents a key milestone in a broader journey toward operational excellence and sustainability, fully aligned with European energy transition goals and the latest energy efficiency regulations.
To remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market, LICAT Srl chose to invest in a solution capable of reducing energy dependence and enhancing overall competitiveness through a structured efficiency improvement program.
The project is part of a comprehensive refurbishment plan for the entire facility: from the complete renovation of the roof using thermal efficiency criteria, to the replacement of windows and the improvement of insulation.
At the same time, the company renewed its machinery fleet by introducing next-generation systems that are less energy-intensive and more interconnected, in line with the principles of Industry 5.0.
In this context, investing in renewable energy was not a symbolic gesture, but a strategic decision made possible through collaboration with 3SUN. Every kilowatt-hour produced contributes to improving daily operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Solution. A photovoltaic system designed to last
The photovoltaic system was developed through a synergistic process in which technical expertise, design vision, and a strong focus on sustainability came together in perfect balance.
For its implementation, LICAT Srl selected 3SUN technology, relying on a product designed and manufactured in Europe—synonymous with quality, traceability, and long-term reliability.
The 3SUN B60 series modules, installed on the plant’s curved roof, represent an advanced solution for industrial environments, combining high-performance photovoltaic cells with a highly innovative industrial manufacturing process.
Manufactured at the Gigafactory in Catania, the modules deliver high energy efficiency and solid performance even under extreme weather conditions and high temperatures, helping to maintain stable output over time.
The choice of 3SUN solutions reflects the company’s commitment to combining a European supply chain and full traceability with reliable performance, high quality standards, and long-term durability.
The project was developed in collaboration with Kennew Srl, which managed the entire technical process: from system design—defining the most efficient architectural and energy criteria—to the construction of the new roof and the installation of the 3SUN photovoltaic modules, ensuring seamless integration with the existing structure and compliance with scheduled timelines.
IBS Consulting supported the project by managing the permitting process, ensuring full regulatory compliance and the proper handling of financial aspects—key elements for the overall success of the initiative.
The result is a photovoltaic system designed in close dialogue with the building’s architecture, enhancing the curved roof while combining aesthetic integration with energy functionality.
Results. High performance and tangible savings
With a total capacity of 225.70 kWp and a total investment of approximately € 770,000 —including the entire modernization intervention — the system allows LICAT Srl to achieve savings of around € 5,000 per month, equivalent to €60,000 per year, significantly reducing energy costs.
The 3SUN B60 series modules, designed and manufactured at the Gigafactory in Catania, combine technological research, controlled production processes, and robust design. They offer a reliable solution for industrial environments that require operational continuity and durability, generating tangible value and helping shape the future of industrial energy models.
The collaboration between LICAT Srl, 3SUN, Kennew, and IBS Consulting demonstrates how an integrated project can create value on multiple levels — energy, operational, and environmental. Thanks to improved efficiency and reduced consumption, the company has been able to reinvest resources in digital production processes and next-generation machinery.
